Township of Washington, NJ – November 22, 2010 – The OritaniBankCharitable Foundation will award a $100,000 grant to Center for Food Action (CFA) based in Englewood, NJ. A non-profit organization founded in 1976, CFA provides emergency food, rental and utility assistance as well as counseling and advocacy to individuals and families in need from more than 90 towns in northern New Jersey.
By the end of this year, CFA will have given $3 million worth of food – more than 55,000 food packages to 17,000 area residents and kept 1,600 households from being evicted or having their utilities disconnected. Nearly half of all those receiving CFA’s services are children and 14% are senior citizens. Patricia Espy, CFA’s executive director, said, “OritaniBank Charitable Foundation is a long-time champion to those in our region who struggle daily to make ends meet. For the past 12 years, Oritani Bank has hosted the Oritani Bank Golf Classic to benefit the Center for Food Action and this well-attended charity golf outing has raised more than $250,000 for CFA’s emergency services program. Now, with this $100,000 grant, CFA will be able to continue to provide critical services to those in need in 2011.”
“Despite some signs of an economic recovery, the lingering effects of the recent crisis will continue to impact the most vulnerable members of our community for some time.” said Kevin J. Lynch, President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation and Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Bank. “We hope that other organizations will join us in funding the vital emergency services that CFA provides. It is more important than ever for philanthropic organizations to step up and support local charitable organizations like CFA that reach out to our neighbors in dire need of assistance.”
The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation was established in 2007 to assist not-for-profit organizations that help to improve the quality of life for residents in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties.
