Township of Washington, NJ August 30, 2011 Oritani Bank concluded its Annual Christmas in July Childrens Food Drive on August 5th. Over 870 shopping bags filled with child friendly non-perishable food items and close to $4,000 was collected for the Center for Food Action as they help children in need in the Bergen County area. Staff members of the Bank collected the donations from Oritanis corporate office and branches and assisted in the delivery to the Center for Food Action Pantries in Mahwah, Fairview and Englewood.
The generous donations of our customers and employees exceeded our expectations. We are proud to be part of such a caring community, said Anthony V. Bilotta, Jr., Senior Vice President, Retail Banking of Oritani Bank. I would like to thank the entire staff of Oritani Bank for helping to make this years drive a success. In these tough economic times, it is extremely important that we work together to support local organizations assisting the most vulnerable members of our community.
The Center for Food Action (CFA) has experienced an increase in people requiring emergency food this summer with as many as 75 families coming to them for assistance daily. Founded in 1976 to prevent hunger and homelessness in northern New Jersey, the CFA provides emergency food packages, rental and utility assistance, counseling, advocacy and other essential services to those in need. In 2010, the Englewood-based nonprofit distributed seven-day emergency food packages to over 25,000 children, seven percent of whom were under the age of three.
Patricia Espy, CFAs executive director, expressed her thanks to Oritani Bank, its employees and customers for the donation. She said, Summer is always tough because food donations decline during the summer months but the need remains high.
We are grateful for the timely delivery of this urgently needed food. For more information, visit www.cfanj.org.
