Township of Washington, NJ – August 18, 2009 – Oritani Bank concluded its annual Christmas in July Food Drive on August 4, 2009 with the delivery of approximately a thousand bags of food to the Teaneck Family Assistance Center at the Teaneck Armory, which is Battalion Headquarters for the 250th Brigade Support Battalion of the NJ Army National Guard. In addition, over $6,000 in cash donations collected at the bank’s 21 branches will be matched dollar for dollar by the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation.
The Teaneck Family Assistance Center is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping the families of deployed and returning service members in Northern New Jersey. Master Sergeant Minnie Hiller-Cousins gave officers and staff of the Oritani Bank a tour of their facility at the armory, which includes a food pantry, teen center, and counseling and recreational meeting rooms. Pointing to the shelves and bags of food products, she said, “Without you, this would not be possible.” She explained how the Center takes care of the families and provides a haven for them to share experiences as the service members re-enter the civilian world. For the children, the Center sponsors a Boy Scout and Girl troop as well as trips and events.
Oritani Bank joined with the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation in support of the Foundation’s initiative this year to support and recognize New Jersey’s military service men and women. The Foundation recently donated $30,000 to theTeaneck Family Assistance Center to fund their “Welcome Home Picnic” for returning veterans and their families to be held August 22, 2009 at Fountain Springs Golf Club in Ringwood, NJ and to aid in funding the food pantry.
