Township of Washington, NJ – November 20, 2008 – The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $100,000 grant to The Center for Food Action (CFA) based in Englewood New Jersey. CFA is a non-profit organization which provides emergency food packages, rental and utility assistance, counseling and advocacy to individuals and families in need living in northern New Jersey.
The grant will provide $50,000 to CFA immediately for the year 2008 and the remaining $50,000 will be paid in February 2009 and is specifically to support CFA’s emergency services for food, utilities, and rental assistance, which help the poorest and most vulnerable members of our community. CFA urgently needs funds to help fight hunger and homelessness — especially during these difficult economic times when the demand for their services has dramatically increased.
Kevin J. Lynch, Oritani Bank Chairman, President and CEO, and President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation stated “We have been following the news reports about the increased demand that is now being placed on community organizations like CFA, as they struggle to help our neighbors that are seeking help in these troubled economic times. We are also aware that CFA’s emergency funds are quickly being depleted and their donations have slowed a great deal, causing a dire situation. With the Thanksgiving holiday almost upon us, Oritani Bank wants to help and hopes that other companies and foundations will join us in supporting the important work that CFA does for our communities.”
For the past 10 years, Oritani Bank has also hosted a charity golf outing to support the Center for Food Action. This year the proceeds from the Oritani Bank Golf Classic to benefit the CFA exceeded $43,500. Combined with the $100,000 grant, CFA will receive over $143,500.
The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation was established in 2007 to assist not-for-profit organizations that help to improve the quality of life for residents in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties.
