Oritani Bank Hosts Christmas in July Childrens Food Drive
Township of Washington, NJ July 26, 2011 Oritani Bank is holding a Christmas in July Childrens Food Drive from June 27th through August 5th. All Oritani Bank branches are collecting donations of non-perishable food items and cash for the Center for Food Action and the Palisades Emergency Residence Corp., two of the leading providers of emergency food aid to children in Northern New Jersey. A shopping list of the most needed items for children is available at each branch and Oritani is encouraging its customers and staff to take one of their special bags, fill it up and return it to any Oritani branch.
Children are among the most vulnerable of our neighbors in need. The response to our request for donations has been extraordinary so far and reflects the caring and generosity of the communities we serve, said Kevin J. Lynch, Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Bank and President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation. We hope this trend will continue for the rest of the food drive. Together, we can help prevent childhood hunger in our communities.
In 2010, the Center for Food Action (CFA) provided seven-day emergency food packages to over 25,000 children, seven percent of whom were under the age of three. Based in Englewood, the CFA was founded in 1976 to prevent hunger and homelessness. The nonprofit organization provides emergency food packages, rental and utility assistance, counseling, advocacy and other essential services to those in need in northern New Jersey.
